HOME VALLEY STATION
Before I begin this posting I would like to say thank you to 2 of our dedicated followers, Mike & Maurice, even though they put a little pressure on from time to time for the next blog. It is really appreciated as I do get a little slack as I prefer to be outdoors and doing other things, but I know that we want family & friends to enjoy our journey too.
Nearing the end of the Gibb River Road, Home Valley Station was just beautiful and is owned by the Indigenous Land Corporation in the East Kimberley region and is both a working cattle station and a tourism operation, with choices of accommodation. As well as the camping grounds there are safari-style Eco Tents, Homestead Guesthouse rooms & luxury accommodation in the cabins on Bindoola Creek. One of camping grounds is at the Homestead and the other 4klms. away on the banks of the Pentecost River looking across to the Cockburn Range. Both camps provide flush toilets with hot showers with the laundry facilities at the homestead grounds.
Home Valley Station is also home to an on-site Indigenous Training Program offering studies in tourism, hospitality and a range of pastoral operations to Indigenous men & women. There is also the use of 2 swimming pools, bar & restaurant with local live entertainment, barramundi fishing (in season) horse riding and cattle mustering. Although we did try fishing we learnt that you have to have live bait and it was not the right time for the barra. (water too cold). I think we will have to come north in the summer months to catch those barra. We can also recommend the coffee. During our stay we had one 2 days in a row, as we were missing our machine. Top class meals too, because after going on a sunset tour we decided to treat ourselves. The sunset tour consisted of beer, champagne and hor dorves . There was only 1 other couple and our host who drove us to a private lookout to watch the sun setting over the Cockburn Ranges.
Till next post......
