ELQUESTRO-G.R.R.

EL QUESTRO
22nd July and just a short distance away, 49klms to our next scenic adventure was El Questro. Our longest and deepest river crossing was the Pentecost River with smooth stoned river bed. El Questro Wilderness Park is one million acres offering numerous natural attractions. Situated 16klms off the G.R.R. is the Station Township where there are air-conditioned bungalows and various campsites that overlook the Pentecost River. The Station Store provides basic essential items for travellers as well as fuel. The Steakhouse Restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch & dinner and b.y.o. The homestead itself is a further 8klms from the township and is an exclusive retreat cantilevered over the Chamberlain Gorge only catering for 12 guests at a time if you are looking for relaxation & luxury @ $1,000.00 p.n.
We did do the Chamberlain Gorge River Cruise which was also interesting. Again champagne with platters of fruit was supplied and a view of the Homestead. During the floods earlier in the year the homestead was nearly lost, but the saviour was a very large boab tree wedging itself between the poles and stopped it from toppling into the Pentecost River.
Zebedee Springs, natural hot springs, on the station is a must to visit. We decided to go at 7.00a.m. when it was opened, before breakfast. Just as well because it is not a very large area and is most popular. The springs are only accessible from 7.00am to 12.00pm daily. Unfortunately our photos didn’t come out all that well. A trek through El Questro Gorge and a drive to the Station Lookout was well worth the effort. Helicopter rides are available too, but we were fortunate enough to get a really good view from the lookout and a beaut photo of the helicopter going by us.
Sat. night was bbq buffett. We have never seen such an array of food. Too numerous to mention. It was so well organized with a beaut campfire and live entertainment. Again we caught up with Dean, Cathy & Kyle and enjoyed the night together.
25th July we were at the end of the GIBB RIVER ROAD. Now it was onto the Great Northern Highway and heading back towards Broome.
Till next post......
