June in Darwin....
Well, it is time to move on. Tomorrow, 29th June and we will be on the road again. Heading to Western Australia. We have really enjoyed our stay here over the past 2 months. They don’t know what winter means up here. The temperatures are around 30-33degs, but the humidity is not as high which makes it rather comfortable.
A few of our activities have included D’Arcy going crabbing with Neil. (who we met here in Robbie Robbins Reserve, together with his wife De-Wyn). They came home with 6 crabs. De-Wyn and another friend decided to organize a get-to-gether bbq so those that wanted to attend could come along and meet fellow travellers. A great night was had by all.
There is always something to see around Darwin and Crocodylus Cove was one. Although we have seen many crocs on our previous adventures through the Top End we decided to check this out. It is home to the cage of death, where we witnessed a dive by 2 girls in the cage. I think the crocs were too well fed and couldn’t give a damn as they didn’t even move.
One afternoon we loaded our bikes and drove into the Darwin Sailing Club where we took off for an enjoyable bike ride along the foreshore, past Mindil Markets, Sky City Casino and to the top of Cullen Bay. The views were really lovely. Back to the Sailing Club, packed up the bikes and had a beautiful sunset dinner overlooking Fanny Bay. I had crocodile chillie stir fry which was amazing, while D’Arcy had his favourite local creamy garlic prawns & rice.
We were fortunate enough to be here when the Greek Festival was taking place along the Esplanade. Lots of foods to try and entertainment. The children looked stunning in their traditional costumes. Fiona & Peter we think our form of quail is a lot tastier. Looking forward to enjoying it again with you both.
As I am not a “petrol head” D’Arcy had a day out at the V8’s motor racing at Hidden Valley Motor Sports Complex. He thoroughly enjoyed himself as he described it as a very well organized event and track.
During one of our many trips to the Mindil Bch Markets I purchased a soy candle which had a special blend for insects, mozzies & midges. It worked very well as we did have the problem where we camped. Because of this I got to meet a very lovely lady, Hani, who spends a lot time and effort in making her candles. We also had the pleasure of meeting her husband, Andrew, who works away in the mines. I was fortunate enough to be asked by Hani to join her and some friends to the Entertainment Centre to see the show “Rock The Ballet”. If you love music and dancing as I do you would love this show. It was just amazing.
I do not know when I will have the opportunity for the next blog posting as I think there are limited areas of connections going across the Great Northern Highway. We will see.....
